Abu Dhabi Book Fair 2013


The 23rd edition of the highly anticipated Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) running from the 24th-29th of April at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) welcomes today more than 900 exhibitors from the Arab world and beyond including several Turkish publishing houses and literary agencies representing Turkey’s young and vibrant publishing scene.

Organized by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the fast growing Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is considered as the most professional trade fair in the MENA region as well as an exciting and ever-evolving publishing event fostering partnerships and bringing together book enthusiasts, scholars, librarians, schools and universities, authors, copyright agencies and publishing houses from all over the world to celebrate culture, art and literature.

The Turkish national stand, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, will house key participating bodies from the Turkish publishing industry comprising of Anatolia Literary Agency, Hizmet Vakfi Yayinlari, Kayi Literary Agency, Litera Agency, Nurcihan Kesim Literary Agency, Nesil Publishing Group, Nar Publishing, Yaran Publishing, Sürat Publishing and Timaş Publishing Group.

“ADIBF is always an opportunity to further strengthen Turkey’s cultural and commercial relationships especially amongst the GCC & Middle Eastern region. We are delighted to once again take part in the event as it is another chance for us to introduce our rich heritage and emerging pool of literary talents to the international publishing community.” Sedat Gonulluoglu, Turkish Cultural and Information Attaché, said.

Along with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s efforts in supporting publication of Turkish literary works in foreign language, a growing number of resilient Turkish literary agencies on the same hand, display a strong interest in continuing to identify more remarkable foreign works to be published in translation into Turkish language.

“Preceding ADIBF, Turkey garnered Market Focus at the recently concluded London Book Fair which has reinforced the creativity and dynamism that the sector has to offer internationally. Turkey will continue to demonstrate at ADIBF its unique ability to bridge multiple cultures not only geographically speaking but also in terms of art and literature.” Sedat Gonulluoglu, added.

The six-day annual event is an exciting and dynamic venue providing endless opportunities for Arab and international publishers as well as both renowned and budding authors to meet and exhibit their respective works to an open and diverse audience.

Some 60 authors will be appearing at the fair and among them are two award-winning Turkish authoresses/journalists, Kenizé Mourad and Ece Temelkuran known for their historical & politically significant works Regards from the Dead Princess and Deep Mountain respectively.
Turkish literary agent and author of 11 Turkish children’s books, Zeynep Seyde Paksu will be moderating a panel on Current Trends in Children’s Book Publishing at ADIBF’s extensive Professional Programme which is designed to serve as a platform aiming to cultivate relations between publishers in the region and internationally speaking through discussion and exploration of diverse topics and issues in the publishing sector in addition to the presently relevant industry trends.
